Resolving DOS attribute read only file conditions when IIS or Antivirus application accesses files over SMB

Version 1

Resolving DOS attribute read only file conditions when IIS or Antivirus application accesses files over SMB (Server Message Block)

    ---Solution---

The following information applies to GuardianOS servers running 3.0.099, 3.0.099SP1, and 3.2.019.

If IIS is configured to point to files on a Guardian server over SMB, the files accessed by a web browser over IIS unexpectedly adds a read-only attribute to the file. This behavior has been reported with some Antivirus application as well. This condition occurs because the SMBD binary does not properly interpret the functions requested by the client. Note the cause may not be limited to IIS or some Antivirus applications.

Service Pack 1 for Guardian OS servers has been released running 3.2.019 that can be downloaded from our web portal.

Included in the Service Pack is the fix for the issue described above.

If the Snap Server is running 3.x or earlier and it is under a contract that entitles upgrades please contact Adaptec Customer Service to confirm your eligibility. For a Snap Server not covered in either case this release is available from the web portal.
